Formatting a partition is an effective course of action if you intend to reinstall the operating system or if you wish to get rid of sensitive information which may cause serious damage if it falls in the wrong hands. Recovering deleted files is a simple operation, which works most of the time, unless you shred the data. With Remo Drive Wipe, you can make sure that no data can be recovered, even if someone uses the most advanced file recovery application on the market. The software can be used to format entire drives. While formatting, it will overwrite the physical data, according to various algorithms.

Remo Drive Wipe can be used on Windows XP or any later version, including the 2003 and 2008 Server editions. It comes in free and paid versions and it can be installed fast, without any complications. The software asks for 512 MB of RAM and at least 50 MB of free disk space, which is not too demanding for any modern day computer.

When launched, Remo Drive Wipe will automatically detect your local and removable drives. All you have to do is select a drive, on the software's compact interface, and click a Next button, to display the available wiping methods. You can opt for a Fast Zero Write process, which replaces the physical data with zeros. Alternatively, you can opt for a Random Write procedure, which replaces the data with random characters. Moreover, the software places the DOD 5220.22M algorithm at your disposal, which is used by the US Department of Defense.

The software comes with more powerful wiping algorithms as well, which are reserved for the paid version. Once you select an algorithm, you may click a button, located in the lower right corner of the interface, to start the wiping procedure. You should be extra careful what drives you target and make sure you back up important files, because the operation is irreversible. It takes several minutes to complete a wiping operation, but you can be sure that all data will be destroyed.

Pros

The software can shred all data on a drive of your choice. It incorporates several algorithms for wiping and overwriting data. Its user interface has a simple design and its functions are easy to understand.

Cons

Certain wiping algorithms are not available in the free version. Remo Drive Wipe is like an atomic bomb for your disk partitions. It wipes everything in its path and it leaves nothing in its wake.
